Overview
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The doctoral training program consists of two stages, with a complex comprehensive
exam in between the two stages. The first stage is the Training Phase, whereas the second stage is the Dissertation Phase. The student can enter the second stage only if the complex exam was fulfilled successfully after the first stage.
Main research topics of the multidisciplinary doctoral school include: bio-inspired and neuromorphic information technology and bionics; fundamentally new principles of sensory computing, surveillance, and navigation; molecular and nano-sized sensing and computing; realizability studies of electronics and optics; human and artificial language technologies, artificial understanding and telepresence.
PhD students are offered graduate courses related to their chosen research area in the first 4 semesters. Course selections need to be discussed with the scientific supervisor. At the end of the 4th semester PhD students have to take a qualifying exam to demonstrate their scientific skills.

RESEARCH AT THE FACULTY
Research work at the Faculty predominantly focuses on the interdisciplinary area between life sciences, computer science and engineering, and on strengthening the convergence paradigm of these fields. The organizational structure of the Faculty makes cooperation between
different research groups particularly straightforward.
Our outstanding capacities in computing and dedicated hardware architecture design help to solve complex computational problems that arise in engineering design or biological data analysis.
The Faculty was awarded the title of “Research University Faculty” by the Hungarian Government in 2013.
The Jedlik Laboratories (the Ányos Jedlik Research and development Laboratory) is a new Science-Education-Technology Center where the advantages of multidisciplinary work is emphasized in some important emerging fields of science and technology. Study and innovation are linked through major research laboratories and state-of-the-art SMEs, from both Hungary and abroad.
